The Board is pleased to annouce that Michael Shewburg is now our Managing Director and Ashley Solak our Communicatons, Marketing and Hospitality Coordinator.
Judy Steers has joined Five Oaks as the Partner/Program Animator. We ask that you welcome her to the team.
Judy brings many years experience in program design and facilitation, teaching, mentoring and bringing community together. Her early career included training as a musician, then later in engineering technology as an aircraft systems engineer. She left that work to pursue ministry, and she completed a degree in psychology and theology and the 3-year diploma at the Centre for Christian Studies and the Toronto School of Theology.
Judy spent some time in L’Arche in Richmond Hill and south India. For over 15 years she was the director of the Ask & Imagine youth theology program at Huron University College in London, taught Christian Education in the MDiv program and worked on both interfaith and intercultural projects while she was in that role. Concurrently, she also served as the Program Animator for Youth Initiatives at the national office of the Anglican Church of Canada. She has worked with congregations and communities across Canada as a consultant in education, program development and community building. One of her biggest passions is exploring the intersections of science and theology and she is completing an MA in Practical Theology at Western University, writing a thesis on contemporary discourses in Science and Theology and their application in Christian education and faith formation.
Judy sings in the Rainbow Chorus of Waterloo Wellington and serves as the choir’s board chair. Weekends may find her out in her workshop doing woodworking, or exploring Ontario with her partner and their golden retriever in their new (old) camper that they are refurbishing. Judy has two adult children both pursuing careers in the arts. She is thrilled to join the team at Five Oaks in helping to realize a new and exciting vision.
